Hey lawyer,

Have you heard of Yiannis Kouros?

Probably not.

He is a Greek ultrarunner who built a career of records from 100 miles to 1,000 miles.

In 1997, he ran 303 kilometres in 24 hours.

A perfectly unreasonable way to spend a Saturday.

Kouros is widely quoted as saying:

“When other people get tired, they stop. I don’t. I tell my body it is not tired, and it listens.”

That sounds slightly mad.

It is also close to a serious idea from psychologist Albert Bandura:

self efficacy, central to cognitive social theories.

The belief that you can handle a specific challenge.

But self efficacy is not positive thinking.

It is not standing in front of the mirror saying:

“I am unstoppable.”

Your mirror knows.

Its strongest source is what psychologists call mastery experience.

You do something difficult.

Then another difficult thing.

Your brain keeps the receipts.

The lawyer who leads one data centre project is not the same lawyer on the second.

The counsel who helps launch payments in a new market no longer sees the regulation as foreign territory.

The in house lawyer who works beside a sanctions expert across US, EU and UK controls carries that map into the next crisis.

At Ambar, we connect corporates with senior fractional specialists beside internal lawyers during that first difficult project.

Not to take over.

To bring the map, transfer knowledge, reduce avoidable mistakes and make sure the second project belongs to the team.

The assignment ends.

The capability stays.

Confidence is not telling yourself you can do hard things.

It is having evidence that you already did.

Before you go: how Ambar can help

We help GCs access senior independent legal talent when their teams need more range, more speed or more specialist judgment.

1) Fractional counsel for capacity gaps
When a key lawyer moves role, goes on leave, or gets pulled into a strategic project, we help cover the gap without adding permanent structure.

2) Specialist expertise for new areas
Privacy, AI, technology contracts, payments, cybersecurity, energy, regulatory or new jurisdictions — senior lawyers who bring knowledge into the team, not just hours.

3) The layer between in-house and traditional firms
For work that is too senior for junior execution, too close to the business for a law firm machine, and too temporary for a permanent hire.

4) Legal AI that learns your standard
We help legal teams turn senior judgment into playbooks, model answers, red flags, evals and error-analysis frameworks for the AI tools their teams already use.

Not generic AI. Your legal standard.
