I came across a lovely habit reported in some Japanese workplaces.
The first person to arrive takes the parking space farthest from the door.
Not because punctuality is punished.
Because they have time to walk.
The spaces near the entrance stay free for someone arriving later, perhaps carrying things or in a hurry.
Very sweet.
Also the complete opposite of most corporate car parks, where the best space somehow belongs to the person who needs the walk least.
Japan has a word for the thinking behind it:
Omoiyari.
Notice what another person may need before they ask.
You see a similar instinct on Japanese roads.
Let someone merge and they may flash their hazard lights twice to say thank you.
No policy.
No reward points.
Just a system made slightly easier for the next person.
Legal capacity is often allocated the other way.
The first request gets the closest space.
A contract review.
A meeting.
A workstream nobody wants to own.
Then the strategic project arrives and your best lawyer is already buried in a tracker with fourteen tabs and no obvious end date.
At Ambar, senior project counsel can take that operating layer on complex M&A, energy and infrastructure projects, investigations and cross border disputes.
The facts. The contracts. The advisers. The deadlines.
The internal A team stays close to the CEO, the business sponsor and the decisions that shape the company.
Not more people everywhere.
The right people where their judgment matters most.
The first request should not get the closest space.
The most important one should.
Before you go: how Ambar can help
We help GCs access senior independent legal talent when their teams need more range, more speed or more specialist judgment.
1) Fractional counsel for capacity gaps
When a key lawyer moves role, goes on leave, or gets pulled into a strategic project, we help cover the gap without adding permanent structure.
2) Specialist expertise for new areas
Privacy, AI, technology contracts, payments, cybersecurity, energy, regulatory or new jurisdictions — senior lawyers who bring knowledge into the team, not just hours.
3) The layer between in-house and traditional firms
For work that is too senior for junior execution, too close to the business for a law firm machine, and too temporary for a permanent hire.
4) Legal AI that learns your standard
We help legal teams turn senior judgment into playbooks, model answers, red flags, evals and error-analysis frameworks for the AI tools their teams already use.
Not generic AI. Your legal standard.
