I’m Manuel, Co-CEO of Ambar. We help GCs add senior legal capability without adding permanent complexity.

The other day I learned a very good story about granola.

Yes.

Granola.

The food that somehow lets you eat something sweet at 8am and feel morally superior.

It started in 1863.

James Caleb Jackson, an American health reformer, added honey to a dry cereal for patients at his sanitarium.

He called it Granula.

Very healthy.

Very serious.

Probably delicious if your alternative was 19th-century hospital soup.

Then John Harvey Kellogg developed something very similar.

And called it Granula too.

Small problem.

Jackson already had the copyright of the name.

So, after a legal complaint, Kellogg changed exactly one letter.

Granula became Granola.

That was it.

One vowel.

A century and a half later, granola is a category worth billions.

Not bad legal ROI for changing a letter.

I love this story because people tend to think Legal arrives after the business idea.

To check it. Protect it. Document it.

Sometimes.

But sometimes Legal actually changes what the business can become.

A new business line where nobody internally knows the regulatory map yet.

A new type of contract in a vertical the company has never entered before.

A payments model.

A data-centre project.

An AI product.

A cybersecurity service.

A new country where “we’ll use the NY law template” lasts approximately until the first local lawyer opens it.

Those are interesting moments.

The business is still being designed.

And one legal decision can change the options on the table.

At Ambar, we help GCs bring senior specialist judgment into exactly those moments.

Not another permanent hire for something the company may still be testing.

Not a giant external project before anyone knows whether the opportunity is real.

A senior lawyer who has seen that market, contract, regulation or business model before, and can help the internal team learn it while the business moves.

The best legal teams do not only protect value. Sometimes they help invent it.

And occasionally, the distance between the two is one vowel.

Before you go: how Ambar can help

We help GCs access senior independent legal talent when their teams need more range, more speed or more specialist judgment.

1) Fractional counsel for capacity gaps
When a key lawyer moves role, goes on leave, or gets pulled into a strategic project, we help cover the gap without adding permanent structure.

2) Specialist expertise for new areas
Privacy, AI, technology contracts, payments, cybersecurity, energy, regulatory or new jurisdictions — senior lawyers who bring knowledge into the team, not just hours.

3) The layer between in-house and traditional firms
For work that is too senior for junior execution, too close to the business for a law firm machine, and too temporary for a permanent hire.

4) Legal AI that learns your standard
We help legal teams turn senior judgment into playbooks, model answers, red flags, evals and error-analysis frameworks for the AI tools their teams already use.

Not generic AI. Your legal standard.
