Do not think about a white bear.

Too late.

In 1987, psychologist Daniel Wegner asked people to speak out loud for five minutes while trying not to think about a white bear.

Every time the bear appeared in their mind, they had to ring a bell.

The bells rang more than once a minute.

Then Wegner told them they were finally allowed to think about the bear.

They thought about it even more.

His explanation was simple.

One part of the brain tries to distract you.

Another part keeps checking:

“Am I thinking about the bear?”

Small problem.

To check, it must keep looking for the bear.

Legal writes AI policies, privacy agreements and cybersecurity protocols like this all the time.

Do not use unapproved tools.

Do not upload confidential information.

Do not rely on AI output.

All sensible.

But the employee still has a presentation due at 5 p.m.

Now they know exactly what not to do.

They still do not know what to do.

And the forbidden tool is sitting in another browser tab, smiling.

A useful AI, privacy and cybersecurity policy needs more than red lights.

Which tools are approved?

What information can go in?

What requires human review?

Where is the fast route when the answer is unclear?

At Ambar, senior fractional AI governance lawyers can work with Legal, Security and the business to build those safe routes while adoption is still taking shape.

Clear permissions.

Real use cases.

Review standards.

A place to escalate without waiting three weeks.

The GC becomes the person who makes responsible adoption possible, not the person who keeps shouting WHITE BEAR in capital letters.

Because the business will use AI.

The real choice is whether it happens through a route Legal designed, or through a browser tab Legal never saw.

Before you go: how Ambar can help

We help GCs access senior independent legal talent when their teams need more range, more speed or more specialist judgment.

1) Fractional counsel for capacity gaps
When a key lawyer moves role, goes on leave, or gets pulled into a strategic project, we help cover the gap without adding permanent structure.

2) Specialist expertise for new areas
Privacy, AI, technology contracts, payments, cybersecurity, energy, regulatory or new jurisdictions — senior lawyers who bring knowledge into the team, not just hours.

3) The layer between in-house and traditional firms
For work that is too senior for junior execution, too close to the business for a law firm machine, and too temporary for a permanent hire.

4) Legal AI that learns your standard
We help legal teams turn senior judgment into playbooks, model answers, red flags, evals and error-analysis frameworks for the AI tools their teams already use.

Not generic AI. Your legal standard.
