Apple once redesigned its laptop for the only person who would never use it.

The person sitting across the table.

On early PowerBooks, the Apple logo looked correct when the laptop was closed and facing its owner.

That helped the owner know which side to open.

Very sensible.

Then the laptop opened.

And the logo appeared upside down to everyone else in the room.

Former Apple employee Joe Moreno explained the trade off.

Open the laptop from the wrong side and you feel stupid for three seconds.

Open it correctly and the upside down logo stays visible for the entire meeting.

So Apple flipped it.

No extra memory.

No faster processor.

No better screen.

It simply changed what other people saw.

That is the interesting thing about status.

It is not always about having the best specification.

It is what people assume before you explain anything.

Legal departments have a logo too.

When your lawyer joins a meeting, does the business think:

“Good. Now we can decide.”

Or:

“Right. This may take a while.”

That expectation is Legal’s real status inside the company.

At Ambar, senior project counsel can take control of the machinery around a strategic deal, investigation or complex project.

The documents.

The workstreams.

The local firms.

The deadlines.

The budget that has started developing its own personality.

Your best in house lawyers keep their best hours for the meetings where the company decides what to build, buy, defend or abandon.

They do not merely appear in the room.

The business wants them there.

Apple did not flip the logo for the owner.

It flipped it for everyone watching.

Before you go: how Ambar can help

We help GCs access senior independent legal talent when their teams need more range, more speed or more specialist judgment.

1) Fractional counsel for capacity gaps
When a key lawyer moves role, goes on leave, or gets pulled into a strategic project, we help cover the gap without adding permanent structure.

2) Specialist expertise for new areas
Privacy, AI, technology contracts, payments, cybersecurity, energy, regulatory or new jurisdictions — senior lawyers who bring knowledge into the team, not just hours.

3) The layer between in-house and traditional firms
For work that is too senior for junior execution, too close to the business for a law firm machine, and too temporary for a permanent hire.

4) Legal AI that learns your standard
We help legal teams turn senior judgment into playbooks, model answers, red flags, evals and error-analysis frameworks for the AI tools their teams already use.

Not generic AI. Your legal standard.
